• Beck's Depression Inventory

  • The following questionnaire consists of 21 groups of statements. Please read each group of statements carefully, and then CHECK the one statement that best describes the way you have been feeling during the past two weeks, including today.

This inventory can be self-scored. The Total Score is automatically calculated. The scoring scale is at the end of the questionnaire.

  • INTERPRETING THE BECK DEPRESSION INVENTORY

Now that you have completed the questionnaire, the Total Score is calculated by adding the bracketed number for each of the 21 questions you CHECKED. The highest possible total for the whole test would be 63. This would mean you CHECKED number 3 on all 21 questions. Since the lowest possible score for each question is 0, the lowest possible score for the test would be 0. This would mean you CHECKED 0 on each question. You can evaluate your depression according to the table below.

  • LEVELS OF DEPRESSION

1-10 ___________ These ups and downs are considered normal
    11-16 ___________ Mild mood disturbance
    17-20 ___________ Borderline clinical depression
    21-30 ___________ Moderate depression
    31-40 ___________ Severe depression
    Over 40 ___________ Extreme depression
