Keys for Success Music Therapy Consent for Virtual/Telehealth Sessions
Keys for Success is excited to offer virtual and telehealth sessions as a complement to music therapy services. While this mode of service delivery certainly will not replace our inperson sessions, we feel this will be a good complement during times in which inperson sessions are not possible.Each mode of service delivery has pros and cons and each decision on service delivery will be made based on the professional recommendation of the music therapist, with input from the individual’s interdisciplinary support team.
Virtual and telehealth sessionsconsists of the following:
- Virtual sessions via HIPAAcompliant platform to engagein realtime music making and replicate a regular music therapy session as much as possible
- Provision of home programming materials, including recorded music, instructional videos, adapted music, visual aids, and other materials, that the individual can utilizeat home or in the community
- Phone and HIPAAcompliant videoconsultation to provide training on techniques
- All services will be designed to help meet specific music therapy outcomes listed on the PCISP
Pros of virtual and telehealth services:
- Individuals can continue to address and work toward music therapy outcomes outside of the regular inperson music therapy session
- Provides additional support ideas for family members and staff to interact with their loved ones and individuals they serve
- Provides additional opportunities for social engagement between family members, staff, roommates and friends
- Individual can reuse programming and use on a regular basis
- Gives individuals an opportunity to generalize music therapy outcomes to other settings
Limitations of virtual and telehealth services:
- The therapeutic relationship between individual and therapist is instrumental in helping the individual meet music therapy outcomes. It can take longer to develop rapport in virtual services.
- Technology can have challenges with connection, speed, and quality
- Realtime music making can be difficult given differences in connectivity and speed; Keys for Success’ music therapists use best practices to provide the best experience
I hereby give consent for Keys for Success’ music therapists to utilize virtual and telehealth sessions as part of music therapy services. This consent is given until I give notice that these services are no longer requested or until Keys for Success notifies me that these services will no longer be provided. I understand that Keys for Success will maintain confidentiality throughout this service delivery method and I am responsible for confidentiality and privacy at the home or facility at which the client utilizes these services.
