Election to be Listed to Receive Organ Offers from a Donor with a Positive Hepatitis B Core IgG Antibody
A Hepatitis B Core IgG Antibody positive test in a potential donor means that the donor has been exposed to the hepatitis B virus, but does not currently have hepatitis. The policy of CHI St. Luke’s is to use these kidneys in patients who are immune to Hepatitis B from vaccination or prior disease. According to a recent publication, the risk of contracting Hepatitis B from a donor with a positive Hepatitis B Core IgG Antibody level ranges from 0-5.2% (Levitsky & Doucette, 2013).
