Camp Mariposa is a free, weekend camp for youth age 9-12 or 13-17 that are living with addiction in their families. Camp programs are offered multiple times each year and led by mental health and chemical dependency professionals who provide education, counseling and support in a fun, traditional camp setting.
Camp Mariposa is designed to: reduce feelings of isolation, fear, guilt and loneliness, educate campers on the disease of addiction, teach positive life-skills to help manage feelings and practice self-care, and provide information about resources kids can turn to for help.
Camp is not appropriate for youth:
- who struggle with behavioral issues that interfere in the classroom or violence
- with their own substance use disorder
- involved with the criminal justice system (past or present)
- have been in residential treatment
- have a history of running away
- are actively suicidal of self-harming
Camp Mariposa is part of Oaklawn Psychiatric Center of St. Joseph and Elkhart Counties and is sponsored by Eluna.
