WHAT IS A MOTOR SCREEN: A 15-minute screening of the child in and moving through various positions with a quick assessment of strength, balance, and posture, as appropriate.
PURPOSE: To identify potential motor delays or limitations impacting participation and function.
Our PTs will briefly assess parent concerns regarding child development and participation during play and daily activities and screen for postural asymmetries such as scoliosis or torticollis. This screening will also assist in determining the need for additional services or referrals, if appropriate.
WHEN & WHY TO SEEK A SCREENING:
- Child frequently falls
- Asymmetrical posture (head tilt or rotation, elevated shoulder or hip, rounded posture)
- Clumsiness
- Child not keeping up with peers
- Child easily fatigues
- Child has difficulty participating in age appropriate activities
