Our Statement of Purpose
Life Changes, Inc., a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization was founded in 2010, as a sober living home for women. Since that time, the organization has grown to nine gender specific residential homes serving former offenders, addicts/alcoholics, those with physical or mental health disorders, homeless, men and women seeking to leave the sex industry or an abusive situation.
Life Changes, Inc. is a Level II style Sober Living Home as defined by the National Alliance for Recovery Residences (NARR). Life Changes, Inc. provides supportive, alcohol and drug free living environments using a social model approach to recovery and prisoner reentry that emphasize peer support and involvement in 12-step recovery and other self-help programs. Community support is a critical aspect of achieving and maintaining recovery and ceasing criminal activity in any setting and especially so at Life Changes, Inc. Life Changes, Inc. encourages a support network of non-substance using friends and family, peers with lived experience, trained recovery housing staff, outsourced clinical support and access to community resources as an essential element of helping residents maintain recovery and a crime free lifestyle. The Life Changes, Inc. social model approach emphasizes interaction among residents in a shared living space and mutually beneficial relations between the sober living home and the surrounding community. Likewise, many residents of the Life Changes, Inc. program enter the facility from a shared housing experience such as incarceration, an inpatient treatment program, shelter or from a homeless situation.
The goal of all Life Changes, Inc. programs is to help the resident achieve and sustain long-term recovery/sobriety, cease criminal activity, reunify with their families, and become financially stable. Staff works with each resident as a team, teaching the tools integral to becoming self-sufficient members of society. Presenting problems are identified, strengths and weaknesses discovered, and specific problem areas targeted. Family reunification is strongly encouraged, and staff works closely with residents in supervised parent/child visits, life skills classes, budgeting and money management, how to be successful while on criminal justice supervision, critical thinking, impulse control and long-term family stability. The Life Changes, Inc. team empowers residents to develop management skills that will not only assist them during their initial stabilization period, but also to achieve the creative potential in their continuing recovery to design their own solutions.
