I recognize the need for a strong union and believe everyone represented by our union should pay their fair share to maximize our power at the bargaining table. I voluntarily submit this application for membership in Local 223, affiliated with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters so that I may fully participate in the activities of the union. I pledge to uphold the Constitution and Bylaws of the IBT and Local 223, and I will conduct myself at all times in a manner as not to bring reproach upon my Union. I understand that by becoming and remaining a member of the Union I will be able to participate in Union elections, attend and participate in Union meetings, vote to ratify my collective bargaining agreement, and take advantage of programs only available to Union members. I understand that only as a member of the Union will I be able to determine the course the Union takes to represent me in negotiations to improve my wages, benefits, and working conditions. I further understand that the Union’s strength and ability to represent my interests depends upon exercising my constitutional right to join the Union and engage in collective activities with my fellow union co-workers, members of Teamsters Local 223.

DUES CHECKOFF AUTHORIZATION

I, the undersigned, voluntarily authorize my employer to deduct from my earnings regular amounts equal to the union’s membership dues, initiation fee, if any, and uniform assessments and transfer to Teamsters Local 223 monthly or as provided in the agreement (CBA) between the Union and my employer. I understand that the Union may adjust the amount per the IBT Constitution and Local Union Bylaws. I agree that this authorization shall remain in effect for the duration of the existing collective bargaining agreement, if any, and yearly thereafter until a new CBA is ratified unless I give written notice to both employer and Local 223 during the 30 calendar days prior to the expiration of the CBA or, if none, the end of the yearly period. My check-off authorization will renew automatically, regardless of my membership status, unless revoked during the window period described. Union dues are not tax deductible under current federal law.
