Trainee Responsibilities
1. Must maintain a full-time student status (no less than 12 hours) during fall and spring semesters, unless prior approval from Talent Development Specialist has been given.
2. Apply for financial aid each school year and provide a copy of the award/denial letter to Talent Development Specialist, along with any other financial resources, i.e., grants, scholarships, loans, etc.
3. Provide Talent Development Specialist with a copy of your next semester’s class schedule before each semester begins. Make certain that all classes are required in your specific training program. Reimbursement for remedial classes and/or any late fees/charges are unallowable (not applicable to TRADE).
4. Meet with Talent Development Specialist before withdrawing from or adding to your class schedule. Withdrawing from a class or adding a class without approval from Talent Development Specialist after the semester has started can affect your graduation date and your WIOA scholarship.
5. Provide Talent Development Specialist with a copy of each semester’s grades as soon as they are available. You will not be allowed to receive WIOA financial assistance for the following semester until your grades have been evaluated.
6. Make satisfactory progress in the number of credits towards your degree and maintain at least a 2.0 GPA each grading period. If you fall below 2.0 GPA at the conclusion of any semester, you and Talent Development Specialist will have an evaluation/progress meeting to determine your continuation in the WIOA program. Failure to maintain a 2.0 GPA two semesters in a row will result in termination from the WIOA program.
7. You are responsible for payment of repeated classes that have been previously paid for with WIOA funding. Not applicable for Trade Trainees (TAA), as special conditions will apply.
8. WIOA scholarships pay up to $5,000 annually, to reimburse for the actual costs of tuition, books, fees, etc. required to complete an approved training program that leads to an Occupational Skills Credential or an Associate’s degree, not to exceed three years. Not applicable for Trade Trainees (TAA).
9. If you change your name, address, telephone number, employment status, or college enrollment status, you must let Talent Development Specialist know immediately.
10. Submit monthly attendance forms and maintain monthly contact with Talent Development Specialist in the form of an office visit (appointments requested), telephone call, or an email advising them of your progress in school. Failure to maintain contact for two (2) consecutive months will result in the loss of your WIOA scholarship.
11. Attend at least one (1) workshop as assigned by your Talent Development Specialist during your enrollment. Failure to do so will result in the termination of your Individual Training Account.
12. During your last semester, you will need to update your resume to reflect your educational training and provide a copy to your Talent Development Specialist. You may also be required to attend an Employment Workshop at the Career Center or take the NCRC (National Career Readiness Certificate/WorkKeys). WIOA will pay for the initial WorkKeys assessment. You are responsible for payment of any additional WorkKeys assessments.
13. Provide Talent Development Specialist with a copy of your final college transcript, certificate, or degree after completing your training program.
14. Complete an exit interview with Talent Development Specialist at the conclusion of your training.
15. Provide Talent Development Specialist with your employment status for one (1) year after completion of your program along with a copy of your paystub once a quarter.
16. DISLOCATED WORKER AND TRADE (TAA) TRAINEES: Your unemployment benefits could end before your training does. You need to have a means of support should this happen.
TRADE (TAA) TRAINEES: You must also be a full-time student during summer school.
17. If you want to change your Training Degree Plan, required documentation will need to be submitted and the Amendment to Training form is to be signed requesting the change. The form will be submitted for approval/disapproval. Amendments will only be approved if the change does not extend the projected graduation date.
By signing below, I understand that I must comply with all WIOA/TAA Trainee Responsibilities to maintain my scholarship.
