Instructors are not allowed to accept work after the last day of the term UNLESS a student has received formal approval for an incomplete grade.
To request an incomplete grade, submit this form prior to the last day of the term. If you have not already done so, you should then contact the instructor to discuss your sitation and to determine what, if any, work would be allowed for late submission. You will be expected to show that extenuating circumstances beyond your control do not allow you to complete remaining coursework on schedule. Documentation may be required.
ELIGIBLITY: You must meet the following criteria to qualify for an incomplete.
- You have attended at least 60% of the term
- fall & spring semesters: through week 10
- summer semester: through week 6
- You are currently passing the course
- You have submitted at least of 80% of work due to date
- Legitimate cause prevents completion of remaining work by the due date
- Legitimate cause may include, but is not limited to, such things as illness, unavoidable absence, or significant life change.
- All remaining work may reasonably be completed in an agreed-upon time frame
- You initiate the request for an incomplete grade before the end of the academic term
The maximum due date for submission of work is one year from the FIRST DAY of the semester for which the incomplete is issued. For example, if you are granted an incomplete grade for a spring 2023 course, the maximum extension allowed is the FIRST DAY of Spring 2024. Instructors are authorized to require completion at an earlier date. It is recommended that the due date not exceed the first day of the subsequent term.
Exception to maximum due date: incomplete grades cannot extend beyond the last day of the month you are graduating. For example, if you are graduating in spring 2023, all grades, including incompletes for the spring semester, must be submitted on or before the last day of May 2023. No extension beyond that date is allowed.
If the work approved for late submission is not received by the established due date, the incomplete will be converted to a fail.
If you are receiving finanical aid, you should be aware that all incomplete grades are considered F for the purpose of aid eligibility.
