Email and Text Policy/Consent Form
Please read this information and let me know if you have any questions.
Here are some benefits and risks of using email and text:
- Emailing and texting can be convenient, easy and quick.
- The message may be "autocorrected" incorrectly or misunderstood.
- I may not see the message or reply to it. I will be available through email during the hours of 9am-7pm Monday-Friday unless otherwise stated.
- EMAIL AND TEXT DO NOT WORK FOR EMERGENCIES. Call 911 or go to your local hospital emergency department if you need more immediate assistance.
- Your and my Internet service providers save emails and texts. They are available to be read by the system administrator(s) of the Internet Service providers. Therefore confidentiality cannot be guaranteed.
- There is also the possibility that if the address is wrong these messages could be sent accidentally to someone else.
- It is difficult to positively identify who is sending the message: If your phone, iPad, laptop or computer is lost or stolen, a message intended for you may go to a different person. Someone else could then communicate with me using your accounts.
Also, I want you to know that any emails or texts I receive from you and any responses that I send to you become part of your medical record.
These are my specific policies regarding electronic communications with clients:
- I do not text with clients
- I may use email, but only to arrange or modify appointments
Your signature tells me that you understand my policy and if you do text or email any information to me that you understand and accept the risks, benefits and other information explained above.
