Workplace Violence/Restraining/Protective Orders
(Admin Policies 83-48 & 83-38)
McCurtain Memorial Hospital has a zero tolerance for violence, threats of violence and harassment against employees, patients, medical staff, and guests. Workplace violence includes restraining protective orders.
McCurtain Memorial Hospital is committed to creating and maintaining a working, caring, quality environment free from violence. Civility, understanding and mutual respect toward all employees, patients, medical staff and guests are intrinsic to providing a safe and healthful workplace. Threats of violence, acts of violence or harassment not only impact the individuals concerned, but also the mission of the hospital to provide the highest standards of healthcare in a compassionate environment.
McCurtain Memorial Hospital prohibits any violent act, threat of violence, harassment, or any behavior, which by intent, action, or outcome harms another person. Such conduct will be subject to disciplinary action up to and including termination from employment and/or civil or criminal prosecution as appropriate.
Established McCurtain Memorial Hospital policies and procedures will serve as the mechanism for resolving situations of violence, threats of violence or harassment. Anyone observing or experiencing violence, threats of violence or harassment is required to report that information to his or her supervisor, department manager or Risk Manager. Each allegation of violence, threat of violence, harassment, or violent act will be taken seriously.
Definition of terms:
· Threat: When a person directly or indirectly communicates to another (e.g., by speech, conduct, writing) the intent to cause harm to that person’s health, safety or property.
· Harassment: When a person threatens to do harm to another person’s physical or mental health or safety and the victim believes that the threat will be carried out. Harassment includes obscene phone calls, stalking, and coercion.
· Physical attack: When a person physically attacks another, with or without a weapon, whether or not the attack results in grave bodily injury.
Restraining/Protective Orders
McCurtain Memorial Hospital will make every effort to maintain a safe and secure environment for employees and patients. Any employee of McCurtain Memorial Hospital who has a restraining or protective order against a spouse or ex-spouse, family member or other person, must notify Administration, and Maintenance/Security.
The employee must give a copy of the restraining/protective order to Security or Administration, along with a description and/or picture of the individual who the restraining/protective order is against. This will be given to maintenance/security personnel and departmental managers for identification purposes. A copy of the restraining/protective order will be placed in your personnel file.
