A Roanoke City Public School (RCPS) device is being loaned to the Student for academic purposes. It is the Student’s responsibility to care for the equipment and ensure it is maintained in a safe environment.
The device, charger and cord are property of RCPS and are herewith being loaned to the student for educational purposes. The device and all associated items are to be returned to the school within five days of exiting Roanoke City Public Schools. The device must be returned to the school when requested by school staff.
The Student may not deface or destroy this property in anyway. Inappropriate material on the machine could result in the student losing the right to use the computer. The equipment must be returned to the District on assignment date or sooner.
Students who do not return the device and related material when requested may be subject to criminal prosecution or civil liability. A late fee of fifty dollars ($50) may be charged if the device is not returned to the school district on the required check-in date. Student may use technology equipment only for non-commercial purposes, in accordance with the District’s policies and rules.
Any included software may be used only in accordance with the applicable license and it is the Student’s responsibility to be familiar with and comply with the provisions of such license. Student may not install or utilize any software in connection with Student’s use of the equipment other than software owned by the District and made available to Student in accordance with the receipt and agreement. The student agrees not to make any unauthorized use or modifications to such software.
The District is not responsible for any computer or electronic viruses that may be transferred to or from Student’s data storage medium and Student agree to use Student’s best efforts to assure the district property is not damaged or rendered inoperable by any such electronic virus while in Student’s possession.
By signing below, Student and Student’s parent/guardian acknowledge and agree to the terms of use as spelled out in this Device Agreement Form. Additionally, they agree that Student’s use of the District Property is a privilege and the Student’s agreement to the terms hereof, Student acknowledges responsibility to protect and safeguard the District Property and to return the same in good condition and adhere to the following guidelines.
1.) The RCPS Device Agreement must be signed by the student and parent/guardian before a system will be issued.
2.) The student/parent/guardian should recognize that the equipment used in this program is provided as a service for the sole use of the students of RCPS; that the equipment is provided on an “as-is” condition at the student’s/parent’s/guardian’s own risk and responsibility.
3.) The program participant shall immediately report theft of a checked-out device to the Roanoke City Police Department and provide a copy of the police report to the Home School (the Home School is where the system is check out). Please note that computers and peripherals can only be replaced one time per student. Any potential theft may be reported by RCPS to the Roanoke City Police Department.
4.) Personal information should not be installed on these devices.
5.) The parent/guardian is responsible for monitoring the use of the Internet with this device.
6.) The loaned system (which may include laptop, iPad, Chromebook, and peripherals such as power supply and power cord) are all property of Roanoke City Public Schools.
7.) A standard computer image is provided with each device providing select software applications. No additional software should be added to the system.
8.) Student/Parents/Guardians should not attempt to service or alter the loaned system and should not personalize or vandalize the system.
9.) The system must be returned in the same condition as was provided on the agreement commencement date (reasonable wear and tear accepted). In the event that a device and peripherals are returned in a damaged condition, the school may collect a fee of twenty-five dollars ($25) before checking out an additional device.
10.) Systems will typically be erased and reimaged upon return to RCPS. Personal files stored locally will no longer be accessible upon system return.
11.) The computer system, manufacturer, model number, asset number and serial number will be maintained in the Division asset management system.
12.) Devices must remain free of any writing, drawing, stickers, labels, etc.
13.) Students may be charged up to the full replacement cost of a device for loss or for tampering with an RCPS asset sticker or turning in a computer without an RCPS asset sticker.
14.) Do not attempt to remove or change the physical structure of the device, including the keys, screen, casing, etc. Doing so may void the warranty on normal wear & tear and parents/guardians will be responsible for the cost of repair or replacement.
There is no expectation of privacy – Students should have no expectation of confidentiality or privacy with respect to any usage of device, regardless of whether that use is for school-relates purposes or not, other than as specifically provided by law. RCPS may, without prior notice or consent, log, supervise, access, view, monitor and record use of an RCPS provided student device at any time, for any reason, related to the operation of the district. Teachers, school administrators, and the Technology Department may use monitoring software that allows them to locate devices and view the screens and activity on RCPS provided student devices.
Failure to comply with RCPS AUP for Students, the RCPS Device Agreement and other guidelines for using the school devices may result in a non-take home policy.
