Please note: Due to limited program capacity, the wait time for The Arc's Guardianship program is currently estimated between 1 to 2 years. For the most up-to-date information, feel free to contact us at info@arcaustin.org.
Once a person turns 18, parents are no longer natural guardians unless a loved one petitions the court to extend legal guardianship—the program teaches about supported decision making, power of attorney, and guardianship options available. Individuals must attend training to receive guardianship applications to ensure their loved one requires a guardian.
Our program offers an eight-month process for legal guardianship and a way to become educated on the role of legal guardianship and navigate the legal steps to acquire guardianship.
Space is limited to 15 available spots on a first-come, first-serve basis, and an application will be given after the training and deemed eligible for guardianship. By submitting this form, you are adding your name to The Arc’s Guardianship Program waitlist. Being placed on the waitlist does NOT ensure you a spot in the next Guardianship Cohort.
